As of the latest update (12/17/2025) SunTrust’s refinance APRs sit comfortably lower than they were a few months ago: 24‑month 6.49%, 36‑month 6.74%, 48‑month 6.89%, 60‑month 6.99% and 72‑month 7.49%. Those numbers give a clean view of where short- and long‑term borrowing is priced today.
Through September 2025 rates were notably higher — several terms hit the mid‑ to high‑7% range (and the longest terms briefly touched low‑8% on some days). In early October there was a clear downward step: across terms we saw drops roughly 0.5–1.0 percentage point, and since then SunTrust’s daily APRs have been stable in the mid‑6s to high‑6s for most terms.
That October pullback is the difference between a wallet pinch and real monthly savings. If you’re sitting on a loan originated when rates were higher, refinancing now could cut interest costs substantially — especially on shorter terms where APR improvements translate into faster principal payoff.
Before you jump: check your credit score and recent payment history, because a small score bump can snag a noticeably better APR. Run multiple rate quotes (don’t lock with the first offer), compare total costs including fees, and calculate your break‑even time — if closing costs are covered by the monthly savings within a year or two, it usually makes sense. Avoid opening new credit or big purchases right before applying; get pre‑qualified to compare apples to apples.
Short term: expect range‑bound movement unless the Fed changes policy or bond yields shift sharply. Downside gains are possible if inflation cools and long yields fall, but big drops are unlikely overnight. If you need refinancing soon, locking a competitive rate now is reasonable; if you can wait and monitor economic signals, you may catch small improvements later.
